New Jersey: Democratic HQ stink bombed

Stench lasts 5 hours in office

We are posting this because, although the action was unclaimed, it demonstrates an active solidarity with the action against the Democratic Party in Denver and the alleged vandal.  We may never know the intentions of the New Jersey hooligans, but then, the media gets it wrong all the time.

August 31, 2009 |  SOMERVILLE, New Jersey — A stink bomb was thrown against the door at the Somerset County Democratic Committee headquarters at 14 Division St. shortly after noon Monday.

Lash Green II, an intern was working in the office on invitations to a fundraiser Sept. 13 with Newark Mayor Cory Booker in Branchburg when the incident occurred, said Alex Radus, executive director of the party.

Green was not injured.

The office filled with the odor of sulfur or rotten eggs. The odor had dissipated by 5 p.m., Radus said.

Green said he believed the stink bomb was thrown from the passenger window of a white Chrysler 300 that pulled away from the curb in front of the entrance.

Somerville police responded but refused to file a report, citing a lack of damage. [emphasis added]

“This kind of childish behavior takes on grave significance when a political organization is targeted,” said party Chairwoman Peg Schaffer. “It is a mark of intolerance, and amounts to nothing less than assault, voter intimidation and harassment.”
