Take heed: Escaped convicts found by footprints in snow

1 Nov

It did not take Greenwood Village police officers long to find the men suspected of robbing the South Dayton Street 7-Eleven early Thursday — all they had to do was follow the tracks through the snow.

The suspects were identified as wanted fugitives who escaped Oct. 25 from the Arapahoe County Centennial Community Transition Center, which provides residential-treatment services to offenders.

At 2:30 a.m Thursday, police responded to the 7-Eleven store on a report of a robbery. Officers confirmed that two men had entered the store and taken an undisclosed amount of cash, then left on foot.

Officers tracked footprints in the snow to a nearby Motel 6.

After several attempts to make contact with the subjects at the hotel, three people surrendered to officers at 11:45 a.m. without incident, police said.
