El Paso County cop dragged 40 yards by rogue SUV

3 May

An El Paso County Sheriff’s deputy is recovering today after he was dragged 40 yards by an SUV after a Saturday night traffic stop.

A resident called 911 about 10:40 p.m. to report a deputy lying in the street in front of her home in the 1600 block of Rosemont Drive.

Witnesses reported the deputy had stopped a dark- colored SUV, possibly a Jeep Cherokee.

After an argument, the officer reached into the vehicle, and the vehicle sped away with the deputy hanging on to it for about 40 yards before the deputy fell.

The deputy, whose name has not been released, was treated and released from a local hospital.

The driver has not been caught.
