California, Occupied

23November09

In recognition that California’s crisis is Colorado’s crisis, or more accurately that the same crises and conditions underlie all of our embattled existences; that the same forces of privatization, policing, and emptiness drive the struggle on the West Coast and the No Coast; that we have much to do and much to learn, and we may learn it within classrooms, but only if we transform them into spaces of attack on systems of education…

This is how we learn, this is how we fight.

til it breaks brings you: California, Occupied.

This past week, a wave of student occupations and unrest surged through the University of California system as the Board of Regents were approving a 32% across-the-board tuition increase.  Santa Cruz, Berkley, LA, Davis, and Fresno all saw occupations!

The New School Reoccupied has photos and video from the occupations, solidarity statements, and communiques.  Occupy California has detailed updates on how the occupations unfolded and spread and faced repression from without and sabotage from within.  And this is our emergency brings the bold words.  Finally, support Doug Gilbert and all the 100+ arrested.

Read and learn.  Get ready to fight and learn much more.

Coming soon to an institution of higher education near you…

More bank robberies, but why?!

20November09

Denver Post headline:

Brilliant.  I wonder if it has anything to do with poverty, job loss, class society?  I’m sure it’s completely unrelated to this headline, also in the Denver Post:

It couldn’t be that people realize their money and homes are being robbed by the banks, and are deciding to take it back…  could it?

Bad week for bank robbers

20November09

There have been three tragic defeats for bank robbers in Colorado this week.  As we express our total solidarity to the criminals, our hatred of the police, and our grief at the captures and deaths, let’s not forget that there are also dozens, perhaps hundreds, of bank robbers who are still free in Colorado.

The media wants us scared to take action.  There are tons of successful heists that go unreported by the media, but every time a bank robber is caught they report on it.  Just keep that in mind.

In solidarity.

ALF attacks on McDonalds in Denver

13November09

We just found these today.  It’s weird that word of this didn’t get to us sooner.  Oh well.  Enjoy:

Communiqué from the Animal Liberation Front
Date: August 13, 2009
Institution Targeted: McDonald’s Restaurants

Received anonymously:

In the early morning on August 8, in Denver, CO we took action. It was our first A.L.F. Action. Dressed in all back with our faces covered we went to our target, a murdering, capitalist fast food restaurant known as McDonalds. When we got there, there were a few people in their cars in the parking lot and one car in the drive through. They weren’t in the way, so they wouldn’t get hurt, so we just ignored them and proceeded with our action.

We ran up to the McDonalds with our hatchets and hammers and smashed all of its windows on one side of the building and a glass door. Then we ran.

We were warriors that night, fighting for animal liberation and we will continue to fight until the killing and exploitation of all animals is brought to an end.

Communiqué from the Animal Liberation Front
Date: September 6, 2009
Institution Targeted: McDonald’s Restaurants

Received anonymously:

In the early hours of September 5, in Denver, CO we took action a second time. We went to the same McDonalds we went to the first time. The only people there when we got there were the two managers. We moved towards the McDonalds, grabbed some large rocks and smashed some of the windows and the windshield in both of the manager’s cars; we might have done some body damage to the cars too. Then we went up to the building and smashed some of its windows. By this time the manager saw us, we yelled ‘FUCK YOU, MEAT IS MURDER’, and then we ran. It was a good night

Denverite shot and arrested in Seattle for cop killing, firebombing

08November09

You may have read about the murder of a Seattle police officer last week.  That story is here at action at anarchist news.  Today we read a suspect was shot and arrested, and hails from right here in Denver.  Our total solidarity to Christopher Monfort.  Until cops are but a memory:

SEATTLE - A man shot by police as he was sought in connection with the Halloween killing of a Seattle police officer has been identified as 41-year-old Christopher Monfort of Denver.

At a news conference, Seattle assistant police chief Jim Pugel said that a search Saturday of Monfort’s apartment turned up two rifles and improvised explosive devices, which were disarmed by police before they were removed.

Monfort was in serious condition in the intensive care unit at Harborview Medical Center Saturday. Hospital spokeswoman Susan Gregg-Hanson says he underwent hours of surgery Friday and arrived at the hospital in critical condition.

Police say Monfort is suspected of killing Officer Timothy Brenton, who was fatally shot Oct. 31 as he sat in a car with rookie Officer Britt Sweeney after a traffic stop. Sweeney was grazed in the neck.

Monfort remained hospitalized in serious condition Sunday after being shot by detectives in the parking lot of his suburban apartment complex on Friday. Budget cuts will raise tuition: time to occupy!

01November09

State spending for colleges and universities will be cut by 40 percent and would be backfilled by federal stimulus dollars under a plan Gov. Bill Ritter revealed Wednesday to balance the current year’s budget.  Ritter plans to cut $145 million in general-fund revenue from colleges and universities, which comes on top of an $80.9 million cut made earlier this year. The governor wants to backfill both cuts with federal stimulus money, but that is dependent on a waiver from federal officials.
