Grafitti spree in Vail

VAIL, Colo.—A graffiti spree in the mountain resort of Vail resulted in about $10,000 in damage in a single day, and now three residents face felony charges.

Vail authorities say the residents went on a graffiti tear on Wednesday morning that damaged property belonging to the city and Vail Resorts.

Police used security cameras to identify the three suspects—20-year-old Margret Prowell, 20-year-old Robert Cooper and 19-year-old Jay Osborne.

All have been charged with felony burglary and mischief. They also face theft charges—police say the trio stole the cans of spray paint used in the vandalism.

Handcuffed criminal escapes from police car in Aurora

Aurora Police are looking for a burglary suspect who escaped handcuffed from an Aurora police car early today.

Detective Shannon Lucy, spokeswoman for the Aurora Police Department, said that Aurora officers responded to reports of a fight in the 1600 block of Alton Street about 5 a.m.

Once on the scene, police were able to break up a fight between approximately 10 people, said Lucy.

Officers left. But a short time later they were called back after three people involved in the fight returned and one of them kicked down the front door of a house.

All three were arrested, said Lucy.

The man who kicked in the door is considered a burglary suspect because he actually entered the home, said Bob Friel, another spokesperson for the police department.

The burglary suspect was placed handcuffed in the back seat of a police cruiser. However, he was able to escape, said Lucy. A police perimeter was set up but officers were unable to locate the man.

Lucy said police know the man’s name and where he lives and expect to eventually find him.

Lucy said the man is not armed and is not considered a threat.

She said there will be an investigation to determine how the suspect was able to escape the police car. She said that such escapes happen from time to time.

As of 9:30 p.m. today, the burglary suspect was still on the loose.

‘Bonnie and Clyde’ have pulled off three robberies

The FBI and Greeley police are seeking the public’s help in nabbing a pair of brazen robbers dubbed “Bonnie and Clyde.”

The man and woman have pulled off several armed robberies in Greeley over the past month, including a Christmas Eve stick-up of the Guaranty Bank and Trust, 930 11th Ave., according to an FBI media release.

During the 8:40 a.m. Dec. 24 bank robbery, the couple “pointed guns at employees,” ordering one to comply with their demands. Bonnie and Clyde fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Investigators believe on Dec. 15 the same couple, wearing hooded sweatshirts and ball caps to help cover their faces, hit Premier Cash Advance, 3820 10th St., the release said. The robbers brandished handguns and fled with cash.

On Dec. 5 a lone armed robber, believed to be Clyde, held up a Sinclair gas station, 1801 9th St., the FBI said. Investigators believe the same robber attempted to hit the Sinclair a second time, on Dec. 19. Both gas station robberies happened late at night.

Baby Jesus stolen from nativity scene

STEAMBOAT, CO — In late November, someone stole about $7,000 in checks and cash from the Holy Name Catholic Church in Steamboat, Colorado.  The money, collected during a charity fundraiser, was reportedly taken from a locked case in the church office. The case was accessed by a key that was in a desk drawer.

Then, last week, someone stole baby Jesus, Joseph and a lamb from the church’s downtown Nativity scene.

The theft of the three Nativity figures has not been solved. Baby Jesus, Joseph and a lamb were stolen from the Nativity scene in front of the church. The church’s priest said the figures were screwed into a sheet of plywood.

He said he noticed them missing Saturday, but a parishioner told him they might have been missing all of the previous week.

Bob Dapper, a member of the Knights of Columbus group with the church, said he set up the Nativity this year in increments leading up to Christmas Day, adding the figures of Jesus, Joseph and Mary on Christmas Eve.

After the theft, Mary and a lamb remained, but the lamb had been knocked on its side.

Woman attacks car repossession team

Boulder police arrested a 24-year-old Longmont woman late Monday on suspicion of assaulting a woman who was trying to repossess her Oldsmobile Alero.

Officers were called to the 4600 block of Broadway about 11 p.m. Monday. At the scene, police learned that a woman and her husband had been sent to repossess Charde Dickey’s Alero because she had not been making payments, said police spokeswoman Laurie Ogden.

When the couple told Dickey they were taking back the car, Ogden said, she became angry and started yelling at them. To keep the couple from taking her vehicle, Dickey got into the driver’s seat and tried to leave, according to Ogden.

The couple had parked their SUV behind the Alero so she couldn’t drive away, and the woman who was taking back the car stuck her head in the window to try and keep Dickey from shifting gears, Ogden said.

Dickey managed to get the car into gear and slammed into the SUV behind her before dragging the woman who was hanging out her window about 20 feet, according to Ogden.

Her husband called police, and officers arrested Dickey on suspicion of second-degree assault, menacing, criminal mischief, reckless driving and reckless endangerment. Dickey is being held at the Boulder County Jail.

Tragic events

A Denver graffiti artist was sentenced to an incredible 180 days in jail plus two years probation and payment of restitution.

Two Denver-area bank robbers are now in custody–the ‘Crooked Lid Bandit’ and John Kirby–accused of robbing five and three banks respectively.

If there’s anything to be learned from this:

  • Police are saying both individuals “confessed” to mutliple bank robberies.  That’s a no-no.
  • Kirby was sniffed out through anonymous tips that identified him, his car, and his residence.  It seems it was people relatively close to him who snitched.
  • Fuck the police and the legal system.
