An off-duty immigration officer was injured in an altercation at a liquor store Saturday night, Denver police said.

The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer was not seriously hurt.

ICE Facility Attacked in Loveland

14 Jun

Anonymous communique:

Over the weekend of the 15th of May, an ICE field office in Loveland, Colorado was attacked.  Every window and door was shattered, totaling around twelve panes in all.

The unmarked facility is one of many such hidden ICE buildings in the U.S. that attempt to operate in secrecy.  One tactic used by ICE to maintain this secrecy is to take people from their homes in the middle of the night to be “processed” before taken to privately-owned ICE prisons.

By operating in secrecy, ICE is able to maintain this particular sub-station within a shopping and residential district without revealing the repression used to create and sustain borders.

This action was taken in the climate typified by SB1070 in Arizona and local anti-immigrant sentiment.  However, the ICE office would have been targeted regardless of legislation.

Resistance and attacks against manifestations of borders, prison and power will continue as long as families are separated and people are imprisoned, deported, and harassed.

As others have said-

NO DEPORTATIONS!!! NO BORDERS!!

Solidarity means attack.

No Deportations! No Borders!

One thousand students walk out, ten thousand march against SB 1070

3 May

On Friday, over 1,000 students walked out of their classes and marched to the capitol building in Denver in protest of Arizona’s fascist anti-immigrant bill SB 1070.

Corporate story here.

Independent media story here.

The next day, May Day, about 10,000 people marched on the capitol against SB 1070 while another march of about 500 people with anti-captialist revolutionary tendencies, including an anarchist bloc, marched another route.

A Call to Attack SB1070 and Prisons everywhere, on and beyond May Day 2010

29 Apr

By Marek A. Edelman

Let us not be melodramatic or ironic, SB1070 is some fascist shit. For years now ICE has been rounding up our fellow workers, stealing them from their families, children, and communities, often regardless of their immigration status. In 2009, 380,000 people were detained in 350 facilities, and the roundups continue. Detainees are held for months, even years, in conditions often worse than prisons built for “citizens” (although many who are “legally” in the US end up there anyway). Along the US-Mexico border, defense contractors have built massive walls at the safest crossing points, forcing migrant workers to make perilous desert crossings. Many will not make it alive.

FRIDAY: Walkouts and march in Denver against SB 1070

28 Apr

This Friday, there will be walkouts and a march on the capitol building in Denver as part of a state-wide and nation-wide action of solidarity with the resistance to SB 1070 in Arizona.

Ya basta! Say no to racist Arizona bill (SB 1070) that was passed into law on Friday, April 23rd @ 1:30pm.

Exactly a week later….WALKOUT in the Denver-metro area this Friday, April 30th (part of a state & nationwide action).

We can’t let history repeat itself!
Not in Arizona…Not anywhere!

1953-56: “Operation Wetback” – Local police and border patrol officials detained and deported EVERYONE they suspected of being undocumented, many of which were actually US citizens. In total, over 2 million were deported from across the US.

April 23, 2010: Passage of SB 1070 in Arizona – Regardless of whether a crime is being committed, police MUST demand proof of citizenship of EVERYONE they suspect is undocumented and arrest those who cannot provide it. This backward and divisive law promotes racial profiling and terrorizes the community.

WALKOUT in the Denver-metro area this Friday, April 30th (part of a state & nationwide action).

In most cases, students will walkout @ 1:30pm (depends on travel time & to be determined at each school…for example: Lincoln @ 12pm)

MARCH TO THE CAPITOL!!!!

Denver meeting spots:

Viking Park (Speer & Federal) @ 2pm
Sunken Gardens (11th & Speer) @ 2pm
City Park @ 2pm
Lincoln HS @ 12pm (will pick up students from Kepner MS & KIPP schools along the way)

AT CAPITOL:

2:30-3:30pm: Entertainment with music, spoken word/poetry, etc:

3:30pm: Rally program starts…community members giving powerful speeches

Anti-SB1070 protest in Denver

28 Apr

A small group of protestors near Coors Field this afternoon handed out flyers protesting Arizona’s new immigration law as the Rockies took on the visiting Diamondbacks.

Under the new Arizona law, officers can stop anyone based on “reasonable suspicion” to determine whether they are “unlawfully present in the United States.”

Shooter wounds Denver-area cop

15 Mar

UPDATE: Unfortunately, a suspect was captured Saturday night in their apartment.  Further, the media is spinning the case to scapegoat “illegal immigration”–which is convenient for them, as resistance to the expansion of ICE detention and deportation in Colorado is growing.

An Adams County Sheriff’s deputy who was investigating a disturbance at an apartment complex was shot and wounded Saturday night.

The deputy was treated and released at an area hospital, according to the sheriff’s office.

Deputies were on a routine foot patrol around 11 p.m. when there was a disturbance in an apartment complex in the 1700 block of Coronado Parkway in unincorporated Adams County.

While investigating the disturbance, someone in the complex fired several shots, striking the deputy. The sheriff’s office said it would not identify the victim.

Deputies didn’t return fire.

The suspect, or suspects, are still at large.

Wells Fargo bank attacked in Fort Collins

18 Dec

Anonymous communique:

We smashed up a Wells Fargo bank last night in Fort Collins, Colorado.  We don’t really need to explain our reasons–you probably already know them.  But we’ll share a few things.

We are enemies of capitalism.

We are sick and tired of people being locked in cages.

Wells Fargo is the single largest investor in the Geo Group, which owns many I.C.E. detention facilities–private prisons–around the U.S.  The Geo Group and Wells Fargo profit from imprisoning people in Colorado.

We want smashed prisons and the destruction of capitalism, not just windows–the question is how do we create moments in which insurrection is possible?

We are everywhere.

Strength to us all!

New ICE Office in Colorado Springs

1 Dec

Colorado Springs now has its own Immigration and Customs Enforcement office.

The ICE office, which opened Monday, is the agency’s ninth in Colorado.

U.S. Rep. Doug Lamborn, R-Colorado Springs, has been pushing for the new office for two years. He says it’s needed because Colorado Springs is the second largest city in ICE’s Denver-area jurisdiction. He also says he has heard from law enforcement about an increase in illegal immigration in the city.
